UPDATE 11/30/2017
On November 1st, Grayson had another PET scan. The results are as follows: No new nodes and the hot spot in the spleen, although it is still there, has gotten a bit smaller. It could be inflammation, infection or spleen still reacting to the high doses of radiation it received. His doctor feels that it is now safe to remove his port. They do not like to keep them in any longer than they have to as they can get infected or get dislodged. He will have his port removed tomorrow. He will continue to be followed by his oncologist with monthly blood work and scans every 6 months. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. Thank you everyone for all of your support. I will update tomorrow after surgery.

UPDATE 8/2/17
We have the results from Grayson's PET scan. There are no positive nodes in the neck, hilum, abdomen or pelvis, which is very good. There is a calcified area in the spleen, which is more than likely scar tissue. There is also a hot spot in the spleen with low level activity. The "brightness" of a hot spot on a PET scan is measured in "Standardized Uptake Values" (SUVs) which range from 0 for no uptake to 15 for maximal uptake. Most cancers are above 2 or 3, but, now and then, highly metabolic normal tissues can be in this range as well, but usually closer to 2 or 3 than to 15. Grayson's SUV is 2.4. It is low and may be caused by inflammation, but we have to keep a close eye on it. He will repeat the PET scan in 3 months. His liver enzymes have been high the last several weeks, but the results from his blood work today, indicated that they are once again in the normal range. Well there you have it, not the news that I had hoped for, but not bad news either. We long for the day when this roller coaster ride is over and we can unequivocally say, Grayson is cancer free.
Update 6/1/17
Today Grayson had to see a cardiologist. His heart rate has been extremely high for about 2 weeks. His pulse is between 126 and 145. He has to wear a holter monitor for 24 hours to keep track of his heart rhythm. Tomorrow, when he has blood work, they will check his thyroid, as that can cause tachycardia. He also has a low platelet level that continues to drop. Thank you for your support. Please continue to follow him on his You Tube channel, Grayson ZREMAN.

Update 5/22/17
Today, Grayson had his last radiation treatment and was able to ring the bell. In total he had 22 radiation treatments to the chest, abdomen and spleen. He will continue to have weekly blood work to make sure that his counts are improving. Currently, he has a low platelet count, which is concerning. He will be scheduled for a PET scan and CT scans in 4 to 6 weeks to make sure that he is in remission. Thank you for all of your support and following him on his You Tube channel Grayson ZREMAN.

Update (5/3/17)
Grayson has begun his radiation treatments. He has 22 treatments in all. The radiation field covers most of his chest, adomonen and spleen. He has a treatment every Monday-Friday, with Saturday and Sunday off. He has been extremely tired, which is normal, and has a rash on his torso, front and back, where the radiation hits. He has been prescribed medicine for his nausea, but he still has no appetite, so he is losing weight. This is due to the high dose of radiation that he receives to the area in the abdomen where the chemo resistant tumor was. He has been occupying his time with his YouTube channel Grayson ZREMAN and is very excited that a lot of you have subscribed to his channel. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
Update (4/1/17)
Grayson recently contracted the Parainfluenza Type 3 virus and was hospitalized for 9 days in the PICU and the BMT unit with pneumonia. On Wednesday he had another chest X-ray and, although he still has pneumonia, he is getting better. He is still very short of breath and gets winded quickly, but that is because he was in a bed on oxygen for 9 days. On Monday, we have an appointment with his oncologist to find out when we can meet with the radiation oncologist, so he can begin his radiation treatments. This will be his 2nd time getting radiation and we are not looking forward to the daily trips to the hospital and the radiation burns. Thank you for all of your prayers and support. We really appreciate it.

Update (3/7/17)
Well it has been a very busy month. Grayson received 6 days of high dose chemo, twice a day. He received his stem cell transplant 2/9/17, which is considered day zero. On 2/23/17 (day +14), he was released from the hospital. As to be expected, he had mucositis, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting (every day) , but, overall, he did remarkably well. It is now day +26 and he has been released from the transplant unit, back to his oncologist. He has a pet scan on the 16th to see if he is in remission. Our hope and prayer is that he is. We will then meet with the radiation oncologist to begin his radiation treatments. He was really amazing through all of this and is truly an inspiration.
Update (2/7/17)
Grayson was admitted to the hospital on 2/2. He is on his 5th day of chemotherapy that he receives twice a day, once around noon and then around midnight. He is currently on day -2. Tomorrow he will have his last chemo treatment and on 2/9 he will have the stem cell transplant. Transplant day is considered Day 0 and we will count forward from there. He has done remarkably well, so far, and only gotten sick once. Please continue to keep him in your prayers, as we are told that the 2nd week will be difficult for him.
Update (2/2/17)
We received the test results from the tumors that were removed. The one in the chest is indeed Hodgkin Lymphoma. It did not respond to the chemotherapy, which is not good. He has a much better outcome for a cure, if his Hodgkin's Disease goes into remission with chemotherapy. We are being admitted today for approximately 5 weeks (assuming there are no complications) for his stem cell transplant. His greatest fear is a nasogastric tube (feeding tube), which is generally what these children have, because they cannot get the proper nutrition due to mouth/throat sores. He will be given several days of high dose chemo to destroy everything in his body, good and bad. He will then have the transplant and we will begin the slow road to recovery. After we are released, he will have to have several radiation treatments to the newly affected areas to make sure that the cancer is eradicated.
Update (1/25/17)
Grayson is recovering from surgery. He continues to receive Factor VII.  The surgeon removed the areas of concern and we are waiting for the pathology results. Next week we will proceed with the stem cell transplant. Unfortunately, because our pre-stem cell transplant testing is over 30 days old, we have to repeat all of the tests again. Beginning Monday, he will have an EKG, Echocardiagram, sinus CT scan, Blood Work, chest X-Ray, Bone Age scan, Hearing Exam and an Eye Exam. We will be admitted to the hospital for the stem cell transplant on February 2nd for at least 5 weeks. The high dose chemotherapy he will receive is going to make him extremely sick. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
Update (1/23/17)
Last week we received the results of Grayson's PET and CT scans. He is still not in remission. The node in the abdomen has gotten a tiny bit smaller, however, there is a new spot by the pancreas/bowel area. It was very hard for the radiologist to determine exactly what it is. Grayson's team, along with the specialist at St. Jude have determined that is best if Grayson has surgery to remove/biopsy the nodes that still remain active. We will then proceed with the stem cell transplant. They want to know why these nodes are not decreasing with the chemotherapy. If for some reason they are just reactive lymph nodes, then that will lower the radiation field that he has to have after the stem cell transplant. Today he received another round of chemo to keep the other areas in his body that had cancer in remission. He was violently sick during the chemo, but he seems to be feeling better now. He will have surgery tomorrow at 2. Because of his Factor VII deficiency, he will receive Factor VII before the surgery and again after the surgery to make sure that his blood clots properly. He will be admitted to the hospital overnight, as they will have to continue to monitor his clotting ability. I am told that he could be admitted for his stem cell transplant sometime next week, but he is going to have undergo some of the pre stem cell transplant testing again. I am not sure exactly what tests or when they will be. Thank you for all of your well wishes and prayers. It is wonderful to see all the support that Grayson has. I will update again when I have more information as to when the stem cell transplant will be.
Update (1/3/17)
Today Grayson is having Day 8 of his 8th 21 day cycle of chemotherapy. He seems to be sick only while he is receiving chemo and then, of course, he is exhausted for about 2 days after. The new chemo that they are trying has given him a very bumpy, itchy rash on his entire body, but especially on his chest, arms and face. He is scheduled for a PET scan on the 12th and CT scans on the 16th. Our hope is that he is finally in remission and can continue onto his stem cell transplant. If not, they hope they can remove the entire tumor to determine if it is a different type of cancer, the same cancer and the chemo is not working on it, or possibly, an infected lymph node. Please continue to think good thoughts for a full remission in a couple weeks!!!
Update (12/6/16)
Our news this morning was not what we had hoped for. Grayson is still not in remission. Although the tumor in his chest is shrinking, the tumor in his abdomen remains the same. Dr. Hajjar is consulting with his colleague at St. Jude, as well as the tumor board, to determine if they should do surgery to remove the tumor completely and then biopsy it to see why it is so resist to the chemotherapies we have tried. Our current course of action is two more 21 day rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a PET scan and CT scans. That may change depending on the consult with St. Jude. Today we are receiving Day 1 of his 7th cycle of chemotherapy. His cancer needs to be in remission to give the stem cell transplant for the best results. Thank you for all of your prayers, kind words and support. We appreciate it.
Update (11/22/2016)
Grayson is currently receiving Day 8 of his 6th cycle of chemo. He is having trouble tolerating the chemotherapy, even with the anti- nausea drugs. He is scheduled to have his next PET scan and CT scans of the abdomen, chest and pelvis on December 2nd. He also has to have another pulmunary fuction test, as this new chemotherapy drug is very hard on the lungs and he is having shortness of breath. He has an elevated liver enzyme, so they are monitoring that level as well.  On December 6th, we will know if we are able to proceed with the stem cell transplant. If so, we have been told to expect a 1 to 3 month hospital stay. If he is not in remission, we will need to continue with 2 more rounds of a much more toxic cocktail of chemotherapy drugs.
Update (10/25/16)
Much to our dismay, the results of the PET were not what we had hoped for. Grayson's scan shows that he increased cancer activity in his right lung and his abdomen. His stem cell transplant has been postponed until he is in complete remission, as that will give his best chance of eliminating the cancer. They are going to start him on a new type of chemotheraphy that was just approved by the FDA. It has had excellent results in adults with Hodgkin Lymphoma. He will have to have to have two more 21 day cycles of chemotherapy and then he will have CT and PET scans to see if the cancer is gone. If it is, they will go forward with the stem cell transplant. This is our hope and prayer. If his body does not respond to the new chemotherapy, they will have to change the chemo and do two more rounds. We will be admitted on Thursday to the hospital for the first round of this new chemo, so they can monitor him for any adverse effects. If he is able to tolerate it, he can have his remaining courses as an outpatient. Although we were blindsided by this new turn of events, we remain positive and hopeful. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Update (10/11/16)
Grayson has completed his 4th 21 day cycle of chemotherapy. He is scheduled to be admitted into the hospital for his autologous stem cell transplant on 10/26/16. Before he can have the stem cell transplant, he has to undergo the following exams/tests: PET scan, Eye Exam, Hearing Exam, Dental Exam, CT of the Chest/Abdomen/Pelvis, CT Sinus, Chest X-ray, Bone Age X-ray, Bloodwork, Echocardiaogram, EKG and a Pulmonary Function Test. He is expected to be in the hospital for approximately 4-5 weeks. When he is released from the hospital he will have to begin daily radiation treatments again. This is going to be an extremely difficult journey for him, so please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Update (9/6/16)
We met with the doctor today and, much to our dismay, Grayson is not in remission. He still has active cancer cells in his lung and in his spleen. The tumors have shrunk, but the cancer in the spleen is especially persistent. Grayson will continue to have two more 21 day cycles of chemotherapy and then we will do another scan to see if he is in complete remission. He needs to be in complete remission for the stem cell transplant to have the best outcome. We began our third round of chemotherapy today and it did not go well. Although he was given anti-nausea medicine, he was sick almost immediately and it has continued through this evening. We really appreciate all of your support, concern and prayers.
Update (8/22/16)
Grayson began his 2nd 21 day round of chemo today. He is very tired and does not feel well.  We will have a CT scan of the chest and abdomen, as well as a PET scan the end of the month to see if he is in remission. If he is in remission, we will proceed right to the stem cell transplant. If not, we will have to do two more 21 day rounds of chemo. The hope is that he is in remission and can continue onto the stem cell transplant. If that is the case, he will be given one week of high dose chemo to destroy any remaining cancer cells. This, unfortuantely, destroys all of his good cells, leaving him with no immune system to fight off any virus or infection. He will remain in the hospital for approximately 4-5 weeks during his stem cell transplant and then will begin radiation. Thank you for your continued support, kindness and prayers.

Update (8/7/16)
On Monday 8/8, we will be admitted into the hospital for Grayson's stem cell harvest Tuesday morning. They will insert a line into his femeral artery and the collection will take 5 to 6 hours. Grayson receives a shot every night in his thigh to stimulate the growth of his stem cells. The drug, unfortunately, causes him severe bone pain. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
Update (7/25/16)
Grayson will start chemotherapy today.  He will have 4 rounds of chemotherapy, each round being 21 days. They will then harvest his own stem cells. After that, he will have radiation to the spleen and chest. Next will come the stem cell transplant. During that time, he will be hospitalized for at least 4 weeks, probably 5.
Update (7/19/16)
On 7/18/16, Grayson had surgery to put in his port for the chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant, to do a bilateral bone marrow biopsy and aspiration and to do a thoracoscopy to biopsy a lung lymph node. This port is considerably larger than the previous one, because it has to have two openings. The thoracoscopy required 3 incisions and a chest tube that will remain in place until the 20th. He is in a lot of pain from all the incisions, especially the chest tube. He is requiring Factor VII every 6 hours to help his blood clot, as well as, blood transfusions because his blood count is too low. The biopsies will take 3-4 days and we should have the results and treatment protocol by Friday. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
Update (7/13/2016)
On Friday, we received the heartbreaking news that Grayson's cancer has returned and is now Stage 3. We have been in the hospital since Monday doing daily bloodwork, IV antibiotics, CT scans, a PET scan, an echocardiogram, PFT test, etc, to try and determine the next step. There is a large mass in his chest between his lungs. His spleen is enlarged and about 80% involved. They may or may not remove it. There are new nodes in his armpits and several in his lungs. They believe the nodes in his lungs caused the pneumonia that he has had for the past several weeks. Although he has had several xrays and PFT tests to monitor the pneumonia, lymphoma can not be seen on an xray. There appears to be no new nodes in the neck. They may have to do a stem cell transplant and, if so, they will use his own stem cells. The next step is surgery to test his bone marrow, biopsy one of the new lymph nodes and install either a port or a pic/central line. If he has to have a bone marrow transplant then, unfortunately, he will not be able to have a port, as they do not want a foreign body under the skin. He will then begin chemotherapy. He will alson have radiation to the affected areas.

Grayson's radiation mask.
On February 14, 2015, Grayson's parents discovered a lump on his neck. They brought him into the doctor to have it checked out, and the doctor immediately sent Grayson for surgery to remove what was suspected to be a lymphoma tumor. The results of the surgery and subsequent scans confirmed a diagnosis of Stage 2A Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Hodgkins Lymphoma is rare, especially in such a young child. The cancer is affecting Grayson's lymphatic system (part of his immune system), and if it progresses it will compromise his ability to fight infection. Grayson is a 10-year-old boy with a long road ahead of him.  Sadly, this comes on the heels of his mother's recent bout with breast cancer less than two years ago, which resulted in a mastectomy and two reconstructive surgeries.

Grayson will be having a port put in next week, in preparation for his chemotherapy treatments. He will do two rounds of chemotherapy with two 5-day hospital stays. He will then do a PET Scan. If he is in remission, he will start 28 days of radiation. If not, he will have to do two more rounds of chemotherapy. Please keep Grayson in your prayers that his cancer does not spread and they are able to eradicate it quickly.

We've created this website with the hope to help Grayson and his family during this very difficult time. With so much on their minds caring for Grayson, the last thing they should have to think about is their finances. Unfortunately, many of their expenses for Grayson's treatment are not covered by their insurance.  Their health care premiums alone are $1450 a month, and any financial assistance would help out immensely. In addition, his parents will need to be taking a lot of time off of work to be with Grayson during his treatments and hospitalization. We truly appreciate your support, prayers and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most!

Update (April 3. 2015)
Grayson had 5 days of chemotherapy in the hospital. He is currently at home until his chemo begins again next week. He has to have daily shots of neupogen in his thigh to try and boost his immune system. Although he is having bone pain, an itchy rash and headaches, he is doing remarkably well. Thank you all for your donations and prayers.
Update (April 16, 2015)
Grayson will begin another 5 days of chemotherapy on Monday. The are going to let him do it as an outpatient and although we will have to be at the hospital for about 8 hours a day, at least he can come home and sleep in his own bed. He will then have another round of chemo one week later. The next step will then be a PET scan to see if he is in complete remission. If he is, he will begin 28 days of radiation. If not, he will have to do another 2 months of chemo before radiation can begin. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
Update (April 20, 2015)
Grayson was supposed to begin another 5 day round of chemotherapy today, but, unfortunately, his white blood cell count is too low. This puts him at a very high risk for infection. We hope that when we go back, on Monday the 27th, his counts are high enough to begin his next 5 day round of chemo. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
Update (May 14, 2015)
Grayson had his last chemotherapy session Monday. He will now begin his neupogen shots in his thigh to boost his white blood cell count, as it is very low. His next test is an echocardiogram, as this chemo can be very hard on his heart. On May 28th he will have a PET scan to see if he is in complete remission. If he is, he will then have 28 days of radiation. If not, he will have two more rounds of chemotherapy. Thank you for your continued support and prayers.
Update (June 11, 2015)
Grayson had his PET scan on the 28th and his neck and chest no longer show signs of cancer. This is the news that we were praying for. On the 2nd he was fitted for his radiation mask. He begins his 1st radiation treatment tomorrow and will have 17 radiation treatments in all. The radiation will be at the same time everyday, 5 days a week, with breaks on weekends. If all goes well, he last treatment will be on July 3rd!! Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
Update (August 23, 2015)
Grayson completed his radiation treatments in July and, overall, did very well. We have to wait 8 weeks after the last radiation treatment to have another PET scan, as well as, a CT scan of the neck and chest. We have scheduled these scans for September 1st and should have the results on September 4th, 2015. We continue to pray for a clear scan with no signs of active cancer. If his scan is clear, we will be able to surgery to have his port removed sometime in September. Thank you for all of your continued support, prayers and concern. You have all been an absolute blessing during this difficult time in our lives.
Update (January 24, 2016)
Grayson continues to have monthly bloodwork done to make sure his counts are still ok, as well as PET Scan and CT scans every three months. He is scheduled to have a MRI as well as a chest Xray the beginning of February. Please continue to pray for clear scans. He has begun weekly acupuncture treatments to help with his anxiety, as well as to help heal his heart. The particular chemotherapy he had is very hard on his heart. Thank you for all your continued prayers.

"Grayson, I know you must be tired of fighting this thing, but this bone marrow transplant should really help. My grandson Julian had aplastic anemia which is a similar disease. He had treatments at Seattle Children's Hospital for almost a year and then finally they gave him a transplant. That was 5 years ago and now he has been healthy since. But there were ups and downs for several years back then. Keep hanging in there, you can do this. Our family is praying for you and your family and wish you the best in getting the right treatment to get rid of this cancer. "
